Car Safety for Kids Ages 16 and Up

Teens live for it, and parents live in dread of it: the day your child gets a driver’s license. So how can you alleviate some of your fears and help your teen understand the responsibility they share?

Start by teaching them to drive with an eye toward safety. Our tips for teaching your teen to drive can help you tackle the process in stages so that no one is overwhelmed. You also benefit from watching our video about the role you play in making your child a safe driver.

When the test is done and your new driver is ready to tackle a few outings on his own, sit down and go over our Teen Driving Contract to make sure she understands what you expect every time she gets behind the wheel. Periodically review the specifics of the contract, especially if you feel like your teen is forgetting to follow the rules.
