How to Make Paint for Kids

Here is how to make paint for kids that your creative children are sure to enjoy. Not only will your kiddos love to use the paint, they can even help make it!

1. Bathtub Paint

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/3 cup liquid body soap (make sure it’s kid-friendly and not too strong)
  • Food coloring

Instructions:

  • Mix the above ingredients and divide into either paper or plastic cups, or a muffin tin. At bath time, give your child a paintbrush and let the fun begin!

2. Window Paint

What You’ll Need:

  • Clear dish washing liquid
  • Pre-mixed tempera paints

Instructions:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of dish washing liquid with 1/2 tablespoon of paint for each color. Mix colors separately in paper cups or an old muffin tin.

3. Mess-Free Finger Paint

What You’ll Need:

  • Washable tempura or finger paints
  • Large zip-lock plastic freezer bags
  • Masking tape or painter’s tape
  • White paper

Instructions:

  • Tape sheets of white printer type paper on the table. Put about ¼ cup of paint in each zip-lock bag and zip it closed (make sure to get all of the air out of the bag). Tape one bag over each sheet of paper and let your children paint through the plastic.

4. Outdoor Paint

What You’ll Need:

  • Corn starch
  • Food coloring
  • Water
  • Muffin tin or plastic cups

Instructions:

  • Pour 2 tablespoons of corn starch into each container. Add 2 tablespoons of water to each container. Add food coloring to each and mix.
